A variety of Mediterranean dishes find their origin in Puglia. Its wide acclaimed kitchen can be described as simple yet very tasteful. Typical dishes vary from fish nearby coastal areas, strong meat-platters more inlands and rich veggie dishes up in the hills.

In his books, Jamie Oliver continuously sources from Apuglian cooking ways and methods.

torre_guaceto

Italy's most beautiful beach sites. If you were looking for crowded beaches to show off, you're out of luck! No overfilled beaches, nore ugly large hotels nearby the sea. In Apuglia things run a little different. Taking it easy, in style, enjoying ‘la passegiata’ ("the evening after-dinner walk), only then it's to see and to be seen!

ostuni_parel1

The region around Ostuni has been inhabited since the Stone age. The town is reputed to have been originally established by the Messapii, a pre-classic tribe, and destroyed by Hannibal during the Punic Wars. It was then re-built by the Greeks, the name Ostuni deriving from the Greek Astu néon ("new town").The so-called "Old Town" is Ostuni's citadel built on top of a hill and still fortified by the ancient walls. Ostuni is regarded as an architectural jewel, and is commonly referred to as "the White Town" ("La Città Bianca", in Italian) for its white walls and its typically white-painted architecture. A monument on its own, the town's largest buildings are the Cathedral and the Bishop's Palace. In the summertime Ostuni is a popular destination for tourists from all over the world. The population rises from about 30,000 inhabitants in wintertime to about 100,000.

wijnen

Apuglia is considered as one of the upcoming stars of the wine market. First wine farmers go back all the way to 300 b.c. when Romans slowly started cultivating and exporting wine from Apulia. For considerable time, Apulia's grapes were used to strengthen the harvest of France, Germany and Northen-Italy in times of disappointing harvest. Through its favourable climate, Apulia's grapes have a high concentrate of sugar, resulting in strong wines with a higher then average alcochol degree.
